Amanda Jane Bankert was born in Alexandria, VA, a suburb of Washington, DC.  While the rest of her female classmates were training to be debutantes and housewives, Amanda was busy trying out for the school plays (often winning the lead role) or singing with the school's choral troupe, nothing that would build her up to be suitable "wife material" in the eyes of the DC prep scene.  Her crowd were the punk rockers of Georgetown where she would trade philosophies of life, art and music.

At age 18, she moved to New York to study Art History at Sarah Lawrence College, which includes alma maters such as Yoko Ono and Brett Easton Ellis.  After college, she moved to Paris
